Man rescued after at least 3 days in abandoned cistern

READING, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a man was rescued after at least three days at the bottom of an abandoned stone cistern near the landmark Pagoda overlooking the eastern Pennsylvania city of Reading. The Reading Eagle reports that the man was healthy enough to climb out on his own on a city fire department rope ladder Friday morning. Fire department rescuers were dispatched shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday after police found him underground through the 3-foot-wide opening near the concrete steps at the foot of the stairs leading to the century-old landmark atop Mount Penn. New Conemaugh Valley scoreboard honors former player

JOHNSTOWN -- Conemaugh Valley unveiled a brand new scoreboard at its softball field Wednesday. The new addition honors a former Lady Blue Jay. Becky Castiglione and her family have been looking for a way to honor their daughter and give back to the softball program. Madison Stetson - who played on the first-ever Conemaugh Valley junior high softball team - died unexpectedly in 2010. Money raised through a school dance and a junior high softball tournament last year helped purchase and install the scoreboard in left field. Read More...

PA court upholds sentence for second man involved in 2017 double murder in Somerset Co.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A second man involved in a 2017 double murder case in Somerset County has had his conviction and sentence upheld by the state Superior Court. Marekus Benson and Samson Washington both received life sentences after being found guilty of 1st degree homicide and criminal conspiracy in the deaths of Damian Staniszewski and James Smith.
